INSIDE BACK COVER - MCARTHUR'S MAP, 1778

McArthur's Map of 1778, two years after the building of Rutherglen Bridge. The embryo village of Bridgeton can be seen in the shape of the plots of land laid out for feuing by the landowner of the time, John Orr of Barrowfield. The lines of the earliest streets such as Main St, John St, and Dale St are evident, as are some of the first buildings to have been constructed.
