SHOPS

By the 1950s the main thoroughfares of Bridgeton and Dalmarnock were lined with a great variety of shops at the base of the tenements. All the needs of the community could be obtained locally. Now, they are mainly concentrated at Bridgeton Cross. The following pages show examples of the shops which existed in the area, many of which will be very familiar to the reader.

124) The junction of Canning St and Clyde St, later to be known as London Rd and Abercromby St. This building was taken down c.1935 and a branch of the Bank of Scotland built. The latter is now occupied by a funeral directors.
