Foreword
A group of workers outside the Meal Mill This publication is a “must” to anyone interested in Carmyle. It is important for local residents and others to understand why things happen and what significance they have in our lives. The book traces events that have taken place in our village down the years and, consequently, gives us a better insight into such matters. It tells us what Carmyle was like in the past, how people lived and what industries were associated with the village. Inevitably many changes have occurred over the period of time, most of which have been for the better, especially in the provision of improved housing, better schools, community centres, bowling clubs and, more recently, our new Medical Centre, all of which are designed to enhance the quality of life of our people. The book is a local history of Carmyle and gives an excellent account of the village, past and present. For these reasons I am happy to recommend it to you. Bailie Colin C McNicol J.P. |
