Whiterose

December, 2007 - Joanna Moore - ctdbegg@hotmail.com

Dear Mr Adams,

I wonder if you might be able to help me? I have been employed as an artist by Parkhead HA to design artworks for the new housing currently being built at the corner of Westmuir St and Muiryfauld Drive. As part of my research, I'm trying to find out the origin of the area name Whiterose - would you have any ideas? There is the football team of that name - but I was imagining the football team would be named after the place. And while the white rose as a symbol has Scottish Nationalist associations as well as Jacobite and catholic ones, I was wondering if there might be a local explanation?

Best wishes,

Colin Begg
